Sunday Funday is for Meal Planning

Updated: Jan 15, 2022

Sundays are usually my day to relax and recoup before I kick off the work week. For those that don't know, Plating with Perel is not my full time job...I actually work in Corporate America Monday-Friday.

I like to take Sundays as a day to workout, meal plan for the week and get my creative juices flowing for the week ahead. One thing I've been doing the last few Sundays is meal planning for the week. I cook dinner 6-7 nights a week at home, and I like to make a wide variety of cuisine. That way I'm not eating the same flavors back-to-back nights. From Italian to Mexican to Chinese, I have recipes for it all; and Sundays are usually the day to decide what speaks to me.

I start this by going through my hundreds of handwritten recipes, and seeing what I have a taste for. This week for example, I really wanted Larb which is a Thai dish after I tried it for the first time in Atlanta this summer. Additionally, my mom asked me to make Penne Sardi, which is a dish Biaggi's does; and I put my own spin on it. I then needed a few more dishes to wrap up the week; which will include one with steak, fish and sandwiches. Once I have my dishes selected, I review my recipe ingredients and start writing my grocery list. It's off to the store then, and today will most likely just be a Mariano's and Costco run as I only need five dinners. New Year's will probably be take out and then I'll hit the store again next weekend.

For me, grocery shopping and meal planning makes my week so much easier and I just decide in the morning, which dish I want that night. So if you're at home and dreading what to make for the week, head on over to the recipes section on here or my Instagram (Plating with Perel) and look for ideas.

Until next time, have a great Sunday!
